A Good Circa 1900 German Viola, 392mm or 15 7/16”

A good example of the better trade craft produced in Saxony, Germany at the turn of the 20th century, thus 392mm or 15 7/16” viola features a table of of even grained spruce of medium width and maple of a light, irregular flame; the back, match-booked, demonstrating both clearly visible medullary rays and a light waive to the vertical grain-lines. Golden-brown varnish over a honey colored ground, with accents of a darker, more opaque brown to highlight the the contours of the channel, edgework, and overall antiquing. It presents in a good state of preservation, without any cracks, nor damages, or any repairs to speak of, but demonstrates varnish wear and patina consistent with regular use over its some 120 odd years of age.
