A Venezuelan Viola by Matias Herrero Marrosu and Lucia Valli, 1989. 16 1/4.”
A good Venezuelan viola of 33 years, crafted in 1989 in the Venezuelan capital, Caracas by the renowned Italian trained luthiers to El Sistema and Simon Bolivar, Matias Herrero Marrosu and Lucia Valli. Imbued with style and a softer textured varnish, this 16 1/4” (412mm) demonstrates relatively little wear for the professional use it has seen, with a light, rather attractive crazing and blackened chamfering to the scroll and joints of the ribs. Marrosu and Valli crafted 6 violas for Simon Bolivar that year, of which this was one, and 14 in total. The pair currently reside in Italy and continue to craft masterful instruments in tried and true tradition.
