A Silver Mounted Violin Bow By Otto A. Hoyer “a Pariser.”

Otto A. Hoyer  (1889-1966) is commonly regarded as the definitive craftsman for Hoyer dynasty of bow makers, which trace back to Carl Wilhelm Hoyer (1772-1836). Like many before him, he first received mentorship under the auspices of his father, Ernst August Hoyer and completed his apprenticeship before traveling abroad to hone his skills. Otto Hoyer’s work is particularly desirable because he worked for the inimitable Eugene Sartory in Paris from 1911-1913, for which, he earned the moniker, “Hoyer a Pariser.” He established his own workshop in Markneukirchen in 1925 and produced a range of bows, including such masterful copies that they are sometimes difficult to immediately discern from French bows. His better work remains one of the under-valued opportunity relative to its quality. In other words, highly under-rated.
