A Decorated Neapolitan Viola By Cilo & Riccardo Sirleto, 1992., 16 3/8.”
A modern Neapolitan viola nearing 30 years of age by the brothers Sirleto. Ciro and Riccardo’s opus 260 from 1992, an instrument decorated by inlays perhaps loosely inspired by Amati, and of comfortable proportions that lend an ease of play and facility to any serious musician’s experience. The voice, vibrant and ringing true in alto quality, with a simply scrumptious sounding C string. I’m particularly taken with the highly stylized scroll, a feature which really ties together the contemporary Italian feel of the instrument, completed by the makers’ stamp to both the back button and belly above the label.
