A Modern Italian-American Violin by Gino Cavaceppi, 1976.
Gino Cavaceppi (1932-1987) was an Italian-American luthier recognized in “The Violin Makers of the United States,” a publication profiling leading American luthiers. Born in Rome, the Italian violin and bow maker emigrated to the United States after developing his skills. He settled in Alachua County, Florida, where he became a cornerstone of the musical community, notably showcasing his instruments at an annual Florida Folk Festival in White Springs from 1972. He was also an adept restorer. This particular violin by Gino Cavaceppi was crafted in 1976 and represents a clean and highly characteristic example of both the precise nature of his making and his personal stylizations, utilizing a traditional oil varnish of commendable translucency over well selected and very handsome materials of pronounced irregular flame. Notably, a particularly stunning one-piece back.
