Leo McGarry worked as a truck driver and carpenter before becoming a student of William Bartruff in Minnesota, under whom’s guidance and auspices this instrument was crafted in 2012. Leo has a limited but successful output of instruments, making this viola a rare find as musicians haven’t yet parted with theirs. Plain but high quality materials, finished with a lustrous varnish with satisfying shading. It’s voice is broad but well defined, direct, with a touch of velvet in the texture.
