A Good Silver Mounted Violin Bow By Carl Suss, Circa 1875-1880.

Carl Suss (1860-1898) apprenticed with his father Johann Christian Suss, a protege of Christian Friedrich Knopf. He emigrated to Uruguay in 1880, where he established independently. He imported German bows and continued making until his death in 1898. His work is uncommon but well preserved examples such as this extoll not only the importance of the Knopf school, but illuminated its evolution through the 19th century. Strong, well selected pernambuco of vibrant, varied tonal qualities - flexible enough to offer both bite and easy timbre changes following articulation changes.
