A French-American Viola by Paul Hilaire for Thomas L. Fawick, 1955. 16 3/8”
This beautiful viola was crafted in 1955 by renowned French maker, Paul Hilaire using materials exported by and for Thomas L Fawick of Chicago, Illinois; varnished and setup in the American Roth shops, in which Fawick had a stake. Of the three hundred eighty something made, Fawick presented several to both readily established and up and coming virtuosos, including Itzhak Perlman and Jascha Heifetz. The latter of which, purportedly used his Fawick as a practice violin when first preparing a new program. This viola sports a back length of 16 3/8" and boasts a powerful, sonorous voice with a woody character.
