A Fine Early 20th C. Violin Bow By Hermann William Prell

Hermann William Prell (1875-1925) was an illustrious German achetier who established an independent workshop in the storied town of Markneukirchen in 1898. Prell studied bow making with Heinrich Hoyer from 1890-1893, Albert Nurnberger from 1893-1895, August Rau in 1896, and spent 1897 in France working with Eugene Sartory.

This early example of Hermann William Prell’s craftsmanship dates very close to 1900 and exhibits both hallmarks of greatness and visible wear to the handle and silver mounted frog, but the maker’s brand stamp is still discernible. Tried and true, the pernambuco stick remains strong and straight, with flexibility one is more accustomed to from French bows of the era. Punchy articulations and modular in timbre, this bow will deliver for the most discerning, demanding players. Balanced at 58.5 grams.
