A Contemporary Viola By Gary Garavaglia, 2013. 17”
Gary Garavaglia is an incredibly prolific contemporary American maker from the workshop of William Harris Lee in Chicago, most notably known for the raw color and profundity in depth of sound of his cellos and violas. He crafted cellos almost exclusively for well over 25 years before beginning to imbue violins and violas with his principles of sound; a graduate of the former Kenneth Warren School, which eventually became the Chicago School of Violin Making. His instruments have become a staple of the industry for entry level professional work, the quality of which excels in auditions, advancement, and professional placement in orchestras the world over.
