A Contemporary American Violin by Justin Boone, 2002

A contemporary American violin, circa 2002, hand crafted by Justin Boone in Athens, GA. Justin Boone trained and worked across the United States and Italy alike before settling in Michigan to join the staff of and eventually purchase Frost Gully violins. His instruments are now only available for purchase exclusively by commission and boast a reasonable price tag of only $8,500. It has been freshly strung with Vision strings, touched up, polished, adjusted, and otherwise optimized for its next partner.

In some respects it’s an unusual instrument, yet in the best of ways, the sum of many individualistic details; from the curve and cut of the button, to the rugged and deeply carved scroll - as if the outline of an Stainer had been blown out and extrapolated, but with some of the more exaggerated Guarneris in mind. The F holes are at once both sharp and soft in what also appears to be a modern take on Stainer stylings; as if Guarneri and Stainer had a few too many at an Art Deco mixer, with a back that is both quarter sawn and slab cut (an unusual angle), coated in a color as deep and rich as its characterful voice.
