A Good German Violin, c. 1900

A good German violin, circa 1900, with a clear treble voice and easy response; equipped with Heliocore strings and a new set of fittings: rosewood with gold trim, featuring a shark style chinrest and matching harp-style tailpiece. Although the label inside only states “Made in Germany,” the violin vividly resembles several Mirecourt exports. Specifically, the consistency and color of the varnish, black chamfering on the ribs and scroll, and ivory nut & saddle are all in keeping with those exports and imitate some historically French traditions.

This violin and I first met several years ago when it’s owner, a career musician and collegiate German Professor came in for a check-up. A little elbow grease had it all polished up, singing true with a new bridge and these updated fittings. It’s owner and I read duos, became friends, and were sometime standpartners in a regional orchestra here in Florida.

Unfortunately, he passed away a few years ago after a long and brave battle with pancreatic cancer. I am representing it for sale on behalf of his widow and cannot recommend it highly enough for the modest price of $3,500.
