An Early 20th C. German Bow By Edwin Lothar Hermann

Edwin Lothar Herrmann (1893-1972) is recorded to have been making high quality bows as early as 1914 and hailed from a storied dynasty of achetiers  spanning more than 200 years, which included the likes of C.W. Knopf. At the height of his craft and during his own lifetime, his bows sold for as much as those of his now more esteemed French colleagues, Sartory, Ouchard, and Fetique too. A quality tool of admirable craftsmanship and material selection, featuring well chosen pernambuco, sterling silver mounts, with its original faceplate and a final balanced weight of 60.2 grams. Stamped with the family crest to the ebony frog, the maker’s name to the player side of the handle, and “Germany” on the underside of the handle behind the frog. Excellent playing properties, with a vibrant well seasoned sound.
