A Good French Cello Bow by Francois Lotte, N/E.

Francois Lotte (1889-1970) was the son of Georges Lotte, a violin maker whom worked for both J.B. Vuillaume and Honore Derazey. Francois apprenticed with Charles Nicolas Bazin and worked for Vidoudez in Geneva during World War I. He joined the Cuniot-Hury workshop under the leadership of Emile Francois Ouchard in 1922 and left in 1925 to operate a short lived partnership with Victor Brouillier before establishing an independent workshop in Mirecourt in 1926. He was assisted by his son, Roger Francois Lotte from 1935 but also collaborated with Marcel Lappiere, Marcel Mangenot, and Rene Bernard in the making of bows and provided bows of various branding for Georges Apparut, Paul Hilliare, Alfred Vidoudez, Albert, Voirin, Schmidt, Dupoy, Cone, Enel, Max & Roger Millant, Didier, Deblaye, Villaume, Vatelot, Serdet, Lavest, Charotte Millot, Chanot & Chardon, Charles Bailly, Lucien Francais, Dugad, and others. Some bows, stamped, “Diens,” “Pierrot,” and “Pirelli.” Succeeded by his son in 1960.
