A Fantastic French Violin Bow By Marie-Louis Piernot

Marie-Louis Piernot (1880-1959) was born in Neufchateau, sometimes referred to as Vosges in Northern France and began his apprenticeship under Charles Nicolas Bazin in Mirecourt, with whom he remained for eight years from 1892-1900. Already an accomplished achetier, he then entered the employ of another famed Bowmaker, Joseph Arthur Vigneron, under whom he continued honing his skills and crafting bows until the master’s death in 1906. Seeking greater opportunity, he joined ranks with Leon Bernardel, for whom he worked until 1923, when he established his own Parisian workshop. He made bows of refined craftsmanship for a number of famed firms and makers, many of which went either unstamped or were branded by the commissioning parties.
