A Beautiful Silver & Tortoise Violin Bow by G.A. Pfretzschner

The Pfretzschner name is one of the most easily recognized and well respected names in the violin industry, spanning generations and as far back as the 15th century in and around Markneukirchen. The family atelier was established in 1834 and worked closely with several other masters and ateliers through their history, all contributing to the success of G. A. Pfretzschner, who crafted this fine bow.

Bearing its maker’s original stamp on the player side of the handle with a 3 star attribution, and “Germany” on the bottom facet, this finely crafted pernambuco violin bow features a crafted silver tip pinned to the head, which is a most attractive example of the Saxon school and altogether masterful in execution. The stick is finished with a sterling silver lapping, brown lizard leather thumb grip, and a remarkably well preserved fully lined silver mounted tortoise shell frog, with small pearl eyes and pronounced silver rings, complete with matching three-piece silver button, with rectangular pearl facets inlaid into ebony.

Beautifully balanced at 64 grams and boasting a full round sound, at once dark and velvety in texture.
