Whereas his instruments have achieved great renown and command professional quality valuations, he had significantly less training as a Bowmaker. Such as it is, the bow is relatively well crafted and only priced so modestly because Reed utilized a German factory frog for his handmade stick, a practice he adopted to provide well performing tools for those who could not otherwise afford them.
