A I/S Viola Bow by Giuseppe Vitale
Giuseppe Vitale (1858-1917) was a prominent violinist who emigrated to New York from Italy. He maintained a collection of instruments which included multiple Strads, an Amati, and examples by a number of other prominent Italian and French makers. His son by the same name made a number of instruments and predominantly cello bows in the 1930’s. Although he was largely self taught, he achieved a modicum of success in his execution, warranting several examples sold through auction in more recent years.
This silver mounted belonged to a dear friend and colleague and features an ivory frog with matching one piece button and a beautifully flamed pernambuco stick. Well balanced and weighing 72.2 grams.
