A Petite 19th Century Century Viola, Probably American. 15.”

An intriguing and altogether attractive petite viola with a facsimile Bachmann label; featuring distinctly American maple for the selection of tone-woods, a general attribution would place it’s make in the North-East in the second half of the 19th century. More than likely, Boston or New York. Presenting in good condition, with just some wear to the varnish commensurate with both its age and a lifetime of professional use, this viola demonstrates a power and presence of voice that belies its 15” length of back. Freshly fitted and newly set-up, it would do nicely for a switch-hitter or a seasoned veteran looking to downsize to something more manageable for long orchestra rehearsals that still packs a punch.
