An American Violin By William Wilkanoswki.

An unlabeled mid 20th Century violin, undoubtedly by the hand of the prolific and highly recognizable Polish-American luthier, William Wilkanoswki (1886-1954), who is credited with making over 5000 violins and 100 violas as foreman of his workshop. Many of his instruments feature an idiosyncratic W in the purfling underneath the button, a trademark of his which is not present on this particular violin. It is sometimes said that this was less common in his earlier works, so this instrument may date to the late 30’s or 1940’s. It is in a remarkable state of preservation and otherwise everything one would expect from a Wilkanoswki in characteristic. A modestly priced mid century American violin with well selected tonewoods and a lovely one piece back.
