A French Violin from Charles J. B. Collin-Mezin II, 1924

Charles Jean Baptiste Collin-Mezin I was born in Mirecourt in 1841 and moved to Paris in 1867. At the Paris International Exhibition of 1878 & 1889 he received the silver medal, and gold in 1900, for which his son was named collaborator.

A French violin made in Paris under the direction and in the workshop of Charles J.B. Collin-Mezin II in 1924, the year after his father’s death. Based on the craftsmanship, varnish, and label, it is likely among the last instruments produced there before the family firm was relocated back to Mirecourt.

This violin demonstrates all the quality and refined precision that one would expect from the output of the Collin-Mezin workshops and remains in a good state of preservation.
