Louis Collenot In Caussin Style For JTL, Between 1897-1914.

Louis Collenot (1863-1933)was the grandson of Francois Caussin and nephew of Francois Hippolyte Caussin, under whom he apprenticed from 1876 to 1878, upon which he entered the employ of Honore and Justin Derazey. He joined his younger uncle, Nicolas Caussin in Neufchateau and established independently in Reims in 1897, where he became official luthier to the conservatory there. He sold some of his production to other dealers and workshops, was displaced by WWI and joined Caressa & Francais in 1915 before establishing independently in 1917 at Rue Boursault. He retired to his hometown, Ruevres-La-Chetive around 1924 and continued a small production until his death; succeeded by his son, Raymond Collenot.

This example, a clean, beautiful, and highly characteristic example of Louis Collenot’s work - demonstrating full arching and an Amatese pattern, with distinctive and undiluted antiqued varnish in the Caussin style. Made between 1897 and 1914. Marketer and sold by JTL, the firm that employed many from the Caussin workshop and proliferated the school of Caussin style.
