A Fine Modern Cremonese Violin by Georgi Nikolov, 2022.

Cohen Violins is delighted to present this fine contemporary Cremonese violin commissioned after the 1716 Medici Stradivarius by Georgi Nikolov in 2022. Featuring well aged tone woods that were carefully chosen in collaboration and a luminous red varnish with light, tasteful antiquing and black chamfering to the scroll, rib mitres, and button, this modern Italian violin checks ALL our boxes; boasting a voice that is at once powerful, crystalline, immediate with a lyrical, buttery quality, and altogether ready to further develop with whatever highly demanding, discerning musician should be so lucky to make it a musical partner.

Georgi Nikolov (1997 -) was born into a violin making family in Kazanlak, Bulgaria; the son of renowned luthier, Hristo Nikolov, Georgi was already well familiar with the workshop when he began studying violin making at the High School of Fine Arts and Design in Kazanlak, graduating five years later, in 2016. He entered Scuola Internazionale di Liuteria di Cremona, the International School of Violin Making in Cremona as a third year in the class of Giorgio Scolari and promptly won a diploma, ”Premio Grandi-Taglietti”- the best student of the school for 2016-2017. Also working with Daniele Scolari, Georgi graduated with honors in 2019 and continued working in Cremona, quickly gaining a reputation for crafting beautiful instruments of distinctive character and a sculptor’s precision.
