A Fine Cello Bow By Bernard Millant.
Bernard Millant (1929-2017) began his apprenticeship in violin making in 1946 under the auspices of Amédée Dieudonné in Mirecourt, France. Two years later, Millant began studying bowmaking with Louis Morizot, working alongside the Morizot Frères. He established his own workshop in Paris at the age of 21 and dedicated his life to crafting some of the centuries finest masterpieces, posthumously achieving a personal auction record of over $25,000 for a violin bow in 2023. He was regarded as one of the 20th century’s foremost experts and was sought after for certificates of authenticity. He co-authored L'Archet. Paris: L'Archet Éditions, with Bernard, Raffin, and Jean Francais.
This fine silver mounted cello bow by Bernard Millant is perfectly balanced at 81.2 grams and demonstrates both influence of his mentor, Louis Morizot, and Millant’s iconic stylization to its head.
