A 20th Century American Violin Bow By Philip Kraus.
Philip Kraus (b. 1915) worked for Texas Instruments as a machinist before dedicating himself full-time to restoration and making, with a focus on bows. He serviced the greater Dallas area for many years and made 8 violins and over 200 bows, mostly on a Tourte model. His bows are branded, “Kraus - Dallas.” This Philip Kraus violin bow in silver and ebony belonged to a long-time concertmaster and was inherited some years ago before finding its way to Cohen Violins. Kraus’ background in machining is evident in the execution of the bow which well represents modern American acheterie; balanced at 63 grams and delivering a feeling of consummate consistency.
