A Good Violin from Markneukirchen, Early 20th Century.
Featuring a match-booked maple black of pronounced descending flame, with matching materials for the ribs and head and a tight, even grained spruce for the table, this early 20th century German violin from Markneukirchen readily demonstrates the qualities for which higher end trade instruments from this era are increasingly sought after in lieu of modern commercial alternatives. Judging from the golden ground and subtlety shaded varnish which deepens from a transparent yellow to a deeper orange, and the elegant corners into which the rounded bead of the edgework terminates, this Stradivarius patterned violin was crafted in the 1920’s. Its voice is flexible, clear and well defined, with a bright edge further defined by overtones. overall, good restored condition, with bushings to the peg box, new fittings and setup, and a delightful patina hinting at a hundred years of consistent use.
