A German Cello From Benedikt Lang, 1986

Following a tradition spanning more than five generations, members of the Lang family have been crafting instruments of commendable standard for more than 150 years. Like many others, Benedikt Lang found himself displaced by World War II, forced to leave his Bohemian hometown of Schonbach and re-establish himself in Mittenwald in 1946, where the family workshop grew and continued to thrive after passing to his son and successor, Rudolf Lang, under whom this cello from 1986 was built. Though earlier productions from the Lang family are more sought after, this cello immediately impresses distinctly Mittenwald influences and represents some of the cleanest craftsmanship and best value at its price point, hitting above its class and offering something a modicum more special than Chinese alternatives which can exceed twice its price.
