A Beautiful American Violin by Carl Albert Morril in Boston, 1928.

Featuring a one-piece slab-cut selection of maple for the back of miasmatic figure and flame and 353mm in corpus length, this Guarneri patterned violin from the enigmatic early 20th century American luthier, Carl Albert Morrill was crafted in Boston in 1928. It is the second such example here at the shop, and the third to pass through Tampa. Commendable precision and artistry, particularly in the treatment of the scroll and f-holes; their fluting and the ridge thereof balancing against the bead of the edgework. An attractive violin of almost 100 years in a remarkable state of preservation, with no repairs, not any cracks to speak of, and only delicate patination to suggest its age. Freshly setup and equipped with planetary perfection pegs for ease and stability of tuning. The Wittner chinrest makes this instrument an ideal candidate for a player with a metal sensitivity searching for a light, well balanced violin. Its voice is immediately commanding, broad but well defined and articulated, offering both great depth in resistance and effortless flexibility.
