About Cohen Violins

Cohen Violins is a boutique violin shop in Tampa, Florida which boasts a collection of fine, rare, and sometimes unusual auction quality instruments and bows as well as carefully selected options for the advancing musician. Yaniv M. Cohen has an extensive background in performance and pedagogy as well as more than a decade of practical experience as a luthier. He spent several years working under the tutelage and mentorship of the late Saul Charles Cornell and was also trained by Allen Gatchell, Lynn Hannings, Paul Wiessmeyer, and Francis Morris. He brings his wealth of experience as a performer to his luthier work, understanding in a very personal way exactly what the most demanding of clients desire and expect from their tools and all associated services thereof. Cohen Violins operates by appointment only.

Yaniv Moshe Cohen started performing with the University of Central Florida Symphony Orchestra (UCF) when he was just 13 years old, and continued with the ensemble for almost 10 years, until he graduated from Rollins College in 2013 with a double major degree in Music & English. His primary studies were with Matitiahu Braun of the New York Philharmonic and Manhattan School Pre-College. Yaniv was the Graduate Teaching Assistant at for Orchestral Studies & Viola at Florida International University where he studied with Michael Klotz of the Amernet String Quartet and earned a Masters in Viola Performance.

He has attended the Miami Music Festival, The Wintergreen Chamber Music Festival, the Apple Hill Center for Chamber Music, the Sewanee Summer Music Festival, participated three times in the acclaimed Eastern Music Festival, four times attended the Hot Springs Music Festival, as both Apprentice and Associate, as well as the Taneycomo Festival Orchestra. He has performed with the Broadway Cast of Evita during their national tour, and performed with the National Moravian Society across Germany and the Czech Republic. Festival position have included appointments at the Hot Springs Music Festival in Arkansas, Music Academy International in Italy, where he works as Chamber Coach & Violist, two seasons as Director of the NorCal Music Festival in California (founded 2018), and violist at the Endless Mountain Music Festival (2019).

Yaniv has performed with Johnny Mathis, Sting, Adam Levine, Josh Groban, Kansas, Electric Light Orchestra (ELO), Mannheim Steamroller, the Trans Siberian Orchestra, Andrea Bocelli, Yes, Alan Parsons Project, Jackie Evancho, Cirque Musica, Indigo Girls, Natalie Merchant, Video Games Live, the Irish Tenors, the Little River Band, Hanson, Zelda Symphony of the Goddesses, and others. 

He also maintains an active performance schedule with several Florida orchestras and has performed with The Florida Orchestra, Sarasota Orchestra, The Venice Symphony, Gulf Shore Opera, Lakeland Symphony, South West Florida Symphony, North West Florida Symphony, The Bach Festival of Winter Park, The Villages Philharmonic, Punta Gorda Symphony, Florida Lakes Symphony, Space Coast Symphony, Brevard Symphony, the Gainesville Chamber Orchestra, Space Coast Pops, the Craig Turley Orchestra, Orlando Philharmonic, Atlantic Classical Orchestra, New Score Chamber Orchestra, Symphony of the Americas, South Florida Symphony Orchestra, the Paducah Symphony in Kentucky, the Pennsylvania Philharmonic, and Lancaster Symphony in PA, the Bay Atlantic Symphony in NJ, and the Orchestra Filarmonica di Benevento in Italy.

Yaniv is sought after as a guest clinician and adjudicator, maintains a private studio, and has an extensive background in chamber music. He is one of the founding faculty members of Space Coast Symphony's 'Quartet Movement," and taught Strings, Choir, and General Music in the Brevard Public School System at the Palm Bay Academy Title One Charter School from 2014-2015.
