A Fine Contemporary Italian Violin After Balestrieri By Elisa Scrollaveza.

There are few names as immediately recognizable and commanding of respect and admiration as Scrollaveza. Cohen Violins is absolutely delighted to promote greater representation for women in lutherie and offer this fine contemporary Italian violin after Balestrieri by Elisa Scrollaveza, daughter of Renato Scrollaveza, who founded the Parma Violin Making School in 1975; accompanied by its maker’s certificate.

Born in 1967 in Parma, Elisa Scrollaveza grew up immersed in the world of lutherie and violinmaking of the highest order, following in her fathers footsteps by matriculating at his violin making school, from which she graduated in 1991. She began to make instruments independently thereafter, but continued working closely with her father as an assistant instructor and key administrator at the Parma school, winning an award in 1996 at Bagnacavallo for her stylized taste and refined craftsmanship. In 2002, she founded Scrollaveza & Zanre with her partner and Parma alumni, Andrea Zanre. The pair would teach together alongside Renato from 2006, when the school moved to the newly renovated Rocca dei Sanvitale, offered to them by the Municipality of Noceto for the inauguration of the “Castello Della Musica.” Elisa assumed directorship of the school in 2014 and became the curator of the Renato Scrollaveza Museum at the Castello upon his death, in 2019. She is president of Liutera Parmense, has served as a jury member in numerous violin making competitions, organized and taught at numerous workshops, and was the first Italian woman to be admitted to the prestigious (EILA), Luthiers et Archetiers d’Art. She is recognized as one of the most important luthiers of her generation and has already both guided and influenced the next.
